If you understand, things are as they are.
If you do not understand, things are as they are.
Many people today seem to believe that the world revolves around them, so what I am about to write is going to come as a major shock to some people. The world does not revolve around you! Your world may revolve around you, but that's it. If you died today, if you are blessed, a few people would mourn you for a day or two, but then the world just continues on without you.
This may seem cold or cruel, but the truth frequently seems cold or cruel. The truth does not depend on your opinion of it. It does not depend on your understanding or your approval. It is just the truth. Whether you like it, hate it, agree with it, accept it, refuse to accept it, understand it, or don't understand it. The truth stands independent of you; that is just the way it is.
Things are as they are. You can accept them, refuse to accept them, or work to change them, but at this moment, they remain as they are, independent of your feelings or desires. Refusing to accept things as they are in this moment is simply living in a fantasy world, being too weak to accept reality.
Acceptance is the path to inner peace. As the Serenity Prayer states, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Have the courage to accept life as it is, decide how you should or should not respond to it, and go from there. Bohdi Sanders
